Played by actor Peter Mayhew Chewbacca has become a cult hero in real life, he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award during the 1997 MTV Movie Awards. He has appeared in many popular cartoons, including South Park, the Simpson’s and Family guy. A number of musicians have also written tribute songs, often titled “Chewbacca” about the Wookie.
