The Carolina
Hurricanes made it to the Stanley Cup Championships by finishing
second in the Eastern Conference then by defeating the Montreal
Canadians (4 games to 2), New Jersey Devils (4 games to 1) and the
Buffalo Sabres (4 games to 3) in the playoffs. The 2006 Stanley cup victory was the first for the Hurricanes and the first professional championship for any North Carolina based team.
