USS John Stennis is the seventh Nimitz-class nuclear-powered supercarrier in the United States Navy, named for Senator John C. Stennis of Mississippi. The ship was commissioned on December 9, 1995. The Stennis has over 5,000 crewmen and its mission is to conduct sustained combat air operations while forward deployed in the global arena.
