After finishing the regular season with an 11-5 record the Pittsburgh Steelers stormed into the playoffs, led young quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and running back Jerome Bettis, playing in his last season.
The Steelers won three playoff road games against the third-seeded Cinncinati Bengals, 31-17; the top-seeded Indianapolis Colts, 21-18; and the second-seeded Denver Broncos, 34-17.
The Steelers face the Seatle Seahawks led by league MVP Shaun Alexander in the Super Bowl. Using a combination of stifling defense and precision offense the Steelers claimed their fifth Super Bowl title 21-10. Hines Ward the Steelers wide reciver was named the MVP of game. Ward had five receptions for 123 yards, one touchdown and rushed for 18 yards.
