About the Player Selected with the third over-all pick in the 1989 NFL draft, Barry Sanders the 1988 Heisman Trophy winner, I quickly showed he was an impact running back. His quickness and strength made it hard for any defender to stop him. He is the only running back to reach 1,500 in four consecutive seasons and he led the NFL in rushing yards four times (1990, 1994, 1996, 1997). He was selected to the Pro-Bowl and was named an All-Pro ever season he played (1989-1998) Along with winning the 1988 Heisman Trophy, Sanders was also the 1997 NFL MVP after he became only he fourth players to run for more then 2,000 yards in a season. Barry was also inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2004 and has had his number 20 retired by the Lions, where he played his whole career.
