About the Player The first selection of the 1983 NFL draft by the Baltimore Colts, he was then traded to the Denver Broncos. (The 1983 draft is considered one of the best ever for Quarter backs (Dan Marino and Jim Kelley were also drafted that year). John quickly established himself as a force in the NFL. He was named the 1987 NFL MVP and he led the Broncos to Super Bowl XXI, Super Bowl XXII and Super Bowl XXIV. The Broncos would lose all three times. Not until 1997 in Super Bowl XXVII did John finally get his ring, he would win back to back as the Broncos also won Super Bowl XXXIII (Elway was named the MVP). He is the only quarter back to start in 5 Super Bowls. During his career John appeared in the Pro-Bowl 9-times (tied for most in history with Dan Marino). He holds a number of NFL records, including most wins (148), most game winning scoring drives (47) and almost all of the Denver Broncos passing records. Elway was elected to the Football Hall of Fame in 2004 (he is the only Bronco in the Hall of Fame) and had his number 7 retired by the Broncos.
