First let me welcome everyone back to the Empire Memorabilia blog.  We took some time off from blogging to get ready for the holidays, which happens to be our most hectic time of year.

I wanted to restart the blog with the beginning of a series that we will call unique hockey jerseys. I will be spanning the globe in search of the most interesting looking jerseys ever worn on the ice, this will not be limited to the NHL, although the never-worn St Louis Blues third jersey sure does qualify (more on this in the next installment).

The first jersey we will take a look at comes from the Mahoning Valley Phantoms (see above). The Phantoms wore these unique jerseys on St. Patrick Day (March 17) 2007.

The jerseys were immediately auctioned off following the game, the highest sold for $1,600.

As you can see the jerseys have the typical St. Patrick’s Day color scheme, green, gold and black. It is covered in shamrocks and has the Phantoms logo on the front.

A number of Minor League hockey teams use St. Patrick’s Day jerseys and they all have their own unique feel to them. We'll look at some more in later issues.
