About the Player
Considered one of the best players to ever come from Germany, Dirk Nowitzki has become one of the premier players in the game today. Skilled at all three frontcourt positions, Dirk can play center, power forward and small forward.
Originally drafted with the 9th overall pick of the 1998 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks and Mavericks had worked out a deal prior to the draft so in essence the selection was the Mavericks. Nowitzki quickly became a star in the NBA and has developed into one of the best shooters in the league.
Dirk is a five-time all-star (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006) and a six-time all-NBA team member (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006). He holds many Dallas Mavericks franchise records as well as a couple of NBA records. Dirk is the only player in NBA history to register 150 three-point field goals and 100 blocks in a season (he had 151 three-point field goals and 101 blocks in the 2000-01 season) and was the first player in NBA history who did not attend a United States high school or college to be on the All-NBA first team (2004-05).
Nowitzki has continued to improve each season he has been in the NBA and he is sure to lead the Mavericks to the finals before his playing days are over.
