About the Player Considered by many as one of the greatest NBA players of all-time. Drafted with the sixth pick in the 1978 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics Bird was regarded as a great college player, he won the 1979 Naismith and Wooden Awards given to the top college player. The following year he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. The first of many NBA awards he would earn. Larry lead the Boston Celtics to three NBA championships (1981, 1984 and 1986), Bird was named NBA finals MVP in two of them. Larry Bird also won three straight league MVP's (1984,1985, 1986) as well as an Olympic Gold Medal (1992). His three-point shooting, skilled defense and competitive nature earned Bird a well deserved space in the Baseketball Hall of Fame (Class of 1998).
