About the Player Ryan Howard is quickly becoming one of the top home run hitters in baseball. Drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 5th round of the 2001 baseball draft, Ryan quickly climbed up the Phillies system with his left handed power bat. In 2005, Ryan Howard was voted the National League Rookie of the Year. He batted .288 with 22 Homeruns and 63 RBI's and helped to push Jim Thome out of Philadelphia. Howard hits many opposite field home runs, he was the first player to hit one onto Ashburn Alley (496 feet) and the first to hit one into the upper deck at Citizen Bank Ballpark (Home of the Phillies). Ryan was named to his first All-star team in 2006 and won the Century 21 Home Run Derby (total of 23 home runs). He is a force to be reckoned with and is set to hit many more over the fence.
