About the Player:
Considered by many to be the best catcher of All-Time, Yogi Berra is as popular today as he was when he played for the New York Yankees. A catcher with great skills on both sides of the baseball diamond. He has outstanding skills behind the plate; he was quick, mobile and was a great handler of pitchers. At bat he was one of the hardest players to get out, often hitting bad pitches whether they were high or low. Berra was a three-time American League MVP (1951, 1954, 1955), fifteen-time American League All-Star, appeared in the World Series a record fourteen-time and won a record ten Championships (1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962). He holds many World Series records; most World Series games (75), at-bats (259), hits (71), doubles(10), singles(49), games caught (63) and catcher putouts (457). He was a winner throughout his career as well as a good luck charm to many Yankee teammates. Following his playing career Berra managed the Yankees to a World Series (1964) and then the New York Mets (1973). He is one of only six managers to lead both an American League and National League team to the World Series. Berra was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. He is still a very popular sports personality and will forever loved by fans. He has a number of best selling books and has made much television appearance. Yankee fans consider him the last Yankees living legend.
