About the Player
He is one of the most beloved figures in baseball history as well as one of the greatest. Mickey Mantle played the game with reckless abandonment. He had all the skills, power, speed, good arm, great glove. He could hit home runs, steal bases and hit for average.
Mickey helped lead the Yankees to 12 American League Pennants and 5 World Series Championships (1952, 1953, 1956, 1961, 1962). He holds many World Series batting records, when the spotlight shines on the Bronx in October Mickey was standing front and center. For his contributions on the field the Yankees retired his number 7 and honored him with a plaque in monument park.
He received many awards and honors during his career: Three-time MVP (1956, 1957, 1962), Batting Champion (1956), Sixteen-time All-Star, Triple Crown Winner (1956), Hall Of Fame induction (1974), MLB All-Century Team.
