About the Player Many baseball fans love Derek Jeter and many fan hate him, but one thing they all can agree on is he is a winner. He has helped the Yankees win four World Series Titles (1996, 1998, 1999, & 2000). After being named the 1992 High School Player of the Year Derek was drafted by the New York Yankees with the sixth overall pick of the 1992 MLB amateur draft. He quickly made his way through the Yankees farm system and became the everyday shortstop for the big club in 1996. He was awarded the A.L. Rookie of the Year in 1996 he finished the season with a .314 batting average, 10 homeruns and 78 runs batted in. Every year since Jeter has been a great player both on and off the field. He was the 2000 All-Star Game and World Series MVP and was named the Yankees team captain in 2003. He is well on his way to having his #2 retired by the Yankees and having a plaque hanging in Cooperstown and Along with his on field accomplishments Derek is also heavy involved in charity work, much of which is done Turn 2 Foundation.
