About the Player: One of the rare five-tool players in baseball, Carlos Beltran has had a number of MVP quality seasons during his 9 year career. Originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 1995. Beltran was the 1999 American League Rookie of the year. He played for the Royals he was traded to the Houston Astros during the 2004 season. While with the Astros he tied the record for most in a single post seasons with 8 home runs. Beltran had five straight playoff games with a home run, a major league record. Following the 2004 season Beltran signed a lucrative 7-year contract with the New York Mets. He hit three home runs for the Mets during the 2006 playoffs and finished fourth in the National League MVP voting. He also won his first Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Awards. Beltran is a three-time All-Star and the only player ever to be voted onto the American League teams and play on the National League squad, as he was traded to the Astros from the Royals less than a week before the game.
About the Players: David Wright is one of the brightest young stars in baseball. He is the third basemen that Mets fans have been waiting for since 1962. He has power and is a slick fielder. After being voted as the starting third basemen for the National League (David's First All-Star appearance)hit a home run in his first at bat off of Kenny Rogers. This first at-bat home run came just one night after David hit the third highest single round total in All-Star Home Run Derby history (he hit 16 Home Runs in the first round). Met's fans as well as baseball fans expect many great things from David Wright in the future, not only does he have the on-field skills but he is also has a great off-field image, the fans in New York and around baseball love him. His status in the game will grow each season.
About the Players: Jose Reyes is one of the bright young stars in the game today. He combines speed, power and average on the offensive side. On the defensive side on the diamond he is a great shortstop with quick feet, good hands, a strong arm and great positioning. In 2006 he had a breakout season, he batted .300, with 19 homeruns and lead the league in stolen bases with 64. He was rewarded with a Silver Slugger award as well as a 7th place finish in the MVP voting. Reyes has become very popular with the Mets fans and his continued improvement should propel him to star status in the game.
